Six students inducted into UOG’s new sociology honor society chapter
A chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, an international sociology honor society, has been established at the AV under the , and with it came the recent induction of its first six student members.
“This is very historic for our program and wonderful news for our University to have a chapter of this prestigious honor society established here,” said Professor of Sociology Kirk Johnson.
Induction into the society is a lifetime membership and presents students opportunities to receive travel grants to present at sociological meetings, receive mentorship with professionals, attend an undergraduate research symposium, and compete in a student paper competition.
“Sociology is mainly about making positive change in the world,” said inductee Rochelle Alviz, a junior psychology and sociology major.
In being a new member of Alpha Kappa Delta, she said, “I look forward to learning more about social change — what we can do — and just getting experience in the field of sociology outside of school-related activities.”
